Author, Bianca Lakosaljac Mini-Workshop: Ten Steps to Crafting the Novel
In fiction writing, the writer may be seen as a storyteller, as a teacher, and as an enchanter. A successful writer combines all three—and it is when the enchanter prevails, that the readers encounter a great writer. (Vladimir Nabokov, Lectures on Literature) Join Muskoka Authors Association for a mini-workshop with award-winning author, Bianca Lakosaljac, on Wednesday, November 10 via ZOOM Conferencing when she will share the Ten Steps to Crafting the Novel.

Here is my poem,
Canvas of Our Thoughts
by Bianca Lakoseljac
“In the midst of madness of this world,
music is my salvation,” you say
as you take my hand
and lead me where muses dwell.
Eyes closed, we sashay to the murmuring waves
blush of the rising sun, curtain of the falling rain
pyramids of moonlight on an iridescent lake
shadows of the dying day.
Palm on heart, I swear an oath of secrecy
tell me a tale of how it used to be
—of a young boy running through a moonlit meadow
small hand clutching a fallen star
surrendered glow trailing a forlorn meteor
careening long and far, to a distant rendezvous.
And the boy, now a man
transcends to voice with chord and bar
takes on the yoke of the shifting mores
to render a tableau of our times.
—Mantled old growth of Temagami.
Ancient red pines bowing to deep blue lakes
sentinels to treasures ephemeral
shadowed by city discard and screaming chainsaws.
You are the rhythm of the gandy dancers laying iron to stone
The glint in the young miner’s eye in hopes of mother lode
The courage of the seamen bracing against unrelenting storm
The conscience of the drifter who squanders his passage home.
You are the voice of dawn rising from its slumber
—whisper of stardust.
You will always be there, guitar slung on shoulder
denimed and stately like a totem-pole
painting your verses on the canvas of our thoughts.
